I've been away ... anybody miss me?

So, I was cross-posting my LiveJournal stuff here, then wondered why I was littering cyberspace with duplicates of my inane ramblings, and stopped. I assume no one is really missing being able to read them here, since my LiveJournal posts are never friends-locked. Am I wrong?

Movie Five

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

I was looking for a "Friday Five"- type exercise to do yesterday, but my usual sources didn't yield any current question sets that I liked. Their archives, however, were full of good ones I hadn't done. Here's a cinema-themed set from April 29th.

Cartoon Five

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

Sorry for copping out with yet another meme (which is yet another Friday Five, completed my usual few days late). I couldn't resist this one, though -- it's about cartoons!

Shakespeare Five (part the third)

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

How could I have missed these last Friday? The LiveJournal version of the Friday Five *also* posted Shakespeare questions!

Shakespeare Five (part 2 of 2)

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

Six years ago, the Friday Five blog I sometimes refer to in these pages posted its first set of Shakespeare-themed questions on the Friday closest to April 23rd (the Bard's alleged b'day). Shakespeare questions didn't become an annual FF tradition, but there *were* subsequent sets last year and this year, both of which I've answered in the blog (2015's is at LJ / 2016's is here at DW).

And just for fun, I'll now go back and try that original set from 2010. Ready? Click! )

Shakespeare Five (part 1 of 2)

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

This week's Friday Five honors April 23rd as "the generally assumed birthday of William Shakespeare, based on records of his baptism and the traditions of the time." Like last year's 4/23 -themed set (which I answered here), the questions are all based on quotations from the Bard.

Job saved ... for now

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

I definitely owe an update to anyone who sent positive energy in my direction after I posted about my latest crisis. Last Thursday, I talked to the guy who's one step up from the Schedule Maker at College #1, and he expressed much sympathy -- not just the feelings kind, but the moral kind -- for me, as well as some embarrassment on behalf of the college for implementing changes so cavalierly. There didn't seem to be much he could do to help save my employment status, but he said he'd try something ...

and it worked, whatever it was. I am good for Fall: it's a slightly reduced course load, but at least it's scheduled for days on which I am actually available to teach it. So I shall not be immediately cast into the streets. ;-)

Thanks to any and all for their prayers and/or good wishes.

Another Friday Five

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

So, I started another Friday Five yesterday. Took me a day to finish, but here you go. The theme is "How do you do that?"

Up in the air

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

So, I may be losing a job. This would be one of the three that I paste together to make my living, and ironically it's the one I thought was the least insecure (College #1 -- been there 22 years). Not sure what to do about that. Okay, obviously, I have to get another job. But how?

Saturday Night’s All Right for Writing About

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

This week's Friday Five (well, one of them, anyhow) had the theme "Saturday Night’s All Right for Writing About."

"Karamazov" News

I do believe I am starting to get interested in this story! I admit I had to re-start the book, as it had been so long since I'd read any that I had forgotten certain particulars needed to resume (with any hope of comprehension) at my former stopping place. But this time I can't seem to put it down. More anon ...

Prayer

So here's a cartoon that kind of gets at my ambivalence regarding petitionary prayers.

New Years Meme 2015

(Crossposted from LiveJournal)

Oops! This meme, which I fill out every year as December wanes, is coming to you a couple days late (though I did start it in 2015). Longtime readers with eidetic memories will notice that I have eliminated perhaps four of the regular questions; they were either ones to which I could never think of an answer ("What song lyric best sums up your year?") or simply ones that I always found stupid ("With whom did you talk on the phone the most this year?"). I've also added a question about live performances (since they've become a bigger part of my life), and one about weddings (since I actually attended one).
